The Pennsylvania D.A.R.E. Officers Association, P.D.O.A., is a 501 c(3) Non-Profit organization and was founded in 1990 by D.A.R.E. Officers in Pennsylvania, who wanted to spread their knowledge and information with others throughout the state.

As everyone is aware, D.A.R.E. was founded in 1983 by the Los Angeles Unified School District and the Los Angeles Police Department. Police Officers in Pennsylvania started to become involved with the program around 1987-1988 and at present there are over 1500 officers trained to instruct the Drug Abuse Resistance Education Program. This nationally known program is taught to children in grades K-4, Elementary, Junior and Senior High Schools throughout Pennsylvania

Since the P.D.O.A. was formed , it has seen a marked increase in membership, not only of Police Officers, but also of state educators who support the principles of the D.A.R.E. program and their officers.

Each and every year, the P.D.O.A. conducts an annual In- Service Training / Conference for all state D.A.R.E. officers, along with other POlice Officers and Educators. During the training, valuable learning tools and information are provided to all attendees for the enhancement and delivery of the D.A.R.E.program. The training can include updates on the D.A.R.E. curriculum along with other related topics, which convey current and timely information aimed not only to increase the continued success of the D.A.R.E. program, but also to help the Officers with other issues that may arise within their respective schools.

At the annual In-Service Training / Conference, the P.D.O.A. encourages its members to bring their families. Activities during the In-Service Training are made available for the spouses along with their children. This allows the D.A.R.E. Officers and their families to spend precious time with each other, that otherwise would have been given up to their respective D.A.R.E. programs during the school year.

The mission of the Pennsylvania D.A.R.E. Officers Association is to promote quality training and dissemination of current and updated infromation, which is needed to continue with the success of the D.A.R.E.program within each and every D.A.R.E. Officers respective communities throughout Pennsylvania.
